Join us here at SHA for the award-winning production of Mill Girls

The play chronicles the lives of several girls from dissimilar backgrounds who are thrust into the American industrial revolution of the 1840s when they take on jobs in a New England mill. There they discover the unique rewards of factory work, as one girl earns money to send her brother to Harvard, while another saves for her own tuition. As Irish immigration provides a wave of cheap labor to the mills, wage cuts and miserable working conditions become the norm--but the mill girls are determined to gain reasonable pay and conditions.

With compelling characters and theatrical staging, the play brings history vividly to life.

Schedule of Performances:

  • Friday, April 4, 7:00pm

  • Saturday, April 5, 7:00pm

Tickets are $5.00, and will be available when the doors open at 6:45.

SHA Wins High Honors at Theatre Competition

The Connecticut Dram Association (CDA) is one of the oldest state secondary school theatre organizations in the country.

Established in 1936, the CDA continues to offer students and teachers a wide variety of educational theatre experiences in which to grow and learn, share and enjoy. Each year The CDA sponsors a Festival Competition, and this year Sacred Heart Academy was invited to participate - the first year a private school has been included. Here's how we fared at the CT Drama Awards:

  • Honorable Performance Mention- Bethany Burke

  • Best Actress - Meghan Crosby

  • Outstanding Ensemble Award

  • Special Commendation for Activating History

  • 3rd place for Overall Best Performance in Theatrical Excellence

The students represented SHA with so much dignity and class that they were the object of ebullient compliments from all 11 other school faculties.
