Here is a look back at memorable moments from the past year, with special gratitude to our outgoing officers: Leslie Capuano, Gail Butler, Tammy Brennan and Justina Thengumthyil.

September 28, 2005

Fr. Dairo Diaz inaugurated club activities for the year with a talk on pro-life values and attitudes, highlighting how students can become more caring and respectful of life in their everyday experiences.  Club members and guests from the SHA community were inspired by Father’s passionate Christian commitment to life and love!

Pro-Life Club Liturgy: December 8, 2005

This year the Pro-Life Club sponsored a moving liturgy for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.  As a club we were honored to share the faith and talents of club members through scripture, music and dance in celebration of the life of Mary during this Advent season of light and life.

Christmas 2005

The Pro-Life Club again participated in Operation Christmas Child.  Each club member filled one or more festively wrapped shoe boxes with Christmas gifts of school supplies, hygiene items, clothing and small toys.  Club members were excited to share the true meaning of Christmas with needy children around the world--in Eastern Europe, South America, Africa and Asia--through the outreach of Samaritan's Purse, a Christian relief organization.

Thanks to enthusiasm of club members and the school community, the Pro-Life Club continued its annual Christmas card drive for mothers at the Meriden Birthright..  Selling hand-made cards, the club was able to support the organization's outreach to expectant mothers and their babies.  Pro-Life Club members enjoyed this personal way of celebrating the spirit of the Christmas season.

January 23, 2006

Day of Prayer for Life

To create a deeper awareness of respect for life, the Pro-Life Club shared prayer with the school community during homeroom and at the beginning of each class period.  The Spiritual Adoption Prayer, which all club members say for the unborn, is believed to save the life of one unborn child each time it is recited:

Spiritual Adoption Prayer

O my Jesus, through the intercession of Mary, Your mother who bore You so lovingly, and of St. Joseph, strong man of faith who protected You both, I pray to You for the lives of the unborn children I have spiritually adopted who are in danger of abortion.  Please give to the parents of these children the grace and the courage to bring them to birth and the lives You planned for them.  Amen.

Annual Pro-Life Club Baby Shower: March 24, 2006

Congratulations on another hugely successful baby shower, this year to support the work of Mary and Joseph’s Place of North Haven.  Tremendous thanks to all of the homerooms who participated with characteristic SHA generosity to make the lives of newborn infants and their moms more welcoming and comfortable.

Closing Ring Ceremony: April 11, 2006

In a fitting close to the year’s activities, Fr. Dairo Diaz returned to bless a special gold ring for each pro-life club member to keep as a memento of the beauty of life and her lasting dedication to its protection.  Outgoing president Leslie Capuano also unveiled a Quilt which she made to celebrate the life, love and friendship shared among club members during this year.
