Computer Purchase Information for the
Class of 2011
Dear
Parents of New Students,
We have
contracted again this year with CDW-G, one of the world’s largest
suppliers of technology to schools, businesses and
government agencies, for the purchase of our specially
configured laptop for this fall’s freshman class. We chose
them not only for their products and pricing, but especially
for their service.
In
conjunction with Lenovo/IBM, they have very aggressively
priced the T60 into our $1,500 budget. In
addition, you will be receiving factory installed about
$600-$800 worth of software, the licensing for which is
provided by SHA:

Microsoft Office 2003 Professional,
with FrontPage web-authoring suite

Adobe Acrobat Professional 7.0, for
creating PDF paperless documents
-
Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0 digital
photography suite
-
MathType 5.0, for creating math and
science expressions in Word
-
Geometer’s Sketchpad mathematics
program
-
Atlantis, a computer-based graphing
calculator
-
Inspiration, a visual
thought-processing program

SmartBoard, to connect to our
whiteboard technology

Keyboarding
This year,
we will be having our technology roll-out during the
evening, half of the incoming students will come
Wednesday, August 22nd, the other half,
Thursday, August 23rd. The computers will
all be delivered to the school for distribution on those
evenings. Please keep those dates open. You will be
receiving more details in a later mailing. CDW-G
representatives will be on-hand to facilitate this event.
Here are a few important points about the plan for that
time:

You need
only purchase the$1,500
Computer Bundle, which
includes computer, additional memory, carrying case &
software package. Any other offerings are only
if needed/desired, offered at a significant savings in
most cases.

*** It is
highly recommended that you purchase an external USB
hard drive for backing up the student's system.
There are many occasions when the computers get messed
up for whatever reason & need to be "re-imaged" back to
the way they came out of the box. To avoid loss of
irreplaceable files (music, pictures, homework),
the students must have a means of backing things up
regularly. The ones offered here are priced
competitively, but you may find them cheaper elsewhere.

NEW: An upgrade
has also been established for a faster processor,
larger hard drive and/or an upgraded optical drive (DVD-RW
instead of CD-RW - both will play DVDs, but the DVD-RW
will also write & rewrite DVDs). In addition, on
the Additional Offerings page there is the option of
upgrading the warranty coverage to the 4th year and/or
to full, onsite repair, if desired.

PLEASE NOTE:
For whatever reason, CDW-G's site will not automatically
put the school's address in the Ship To information.
However, all computers purchased through this plan will
be shipped to the school. Since it requires that
you put something in there, you can feel free to put
your own address or the school's.

You will not be charged for the
purchase until the computers are shipped.

However, to avoid possible bottlenecks, please place
your order no later than July 15th.
Finally, I
want to anticipate any concerns you may have. Remember, I
am your first point of contact in this process and indeed
throughout your daughter’s years with us, at least for
