Latin I

This course includes a basic development of Latin grammar
and vocabulary, word structure and derivatives, and selected
readings. The study of Roman cultural history and classical
mythology is also emphasized.
Latin II
425latI QP 4.33 GR 10-12 YEAR 1 CREDIT
In this course students continue the study of Latin grammar
in preparation for reading Roman authors. Further study of
culture, mythology and word derivitives is emphasized.
Prerequisites: Latin I
Honors Latin II
428latIIH QP 4.67 GR 10-12 YEAR 1 CREDIT
This course entails the study and analysis of more complex
grammar. Translation of the works of Latin authors including
Caesar and Plautus is included. Further study of culture,
mythology and word derivatives is emphasized. Prerequisites:
3.67 GPA in Latin I or departmental recommendation.
Honors Latin Prose
450latprH QP 4.67 GR 10-12 YEAR 1 CREDIT
This course reinforces the skills learned in the previous
years of Latin by engaging students in the study of Latin
prose, focusing on Cicero and Sallust; the study of Roman
culture and mythology continues along with an introduction
to the study of rhetoric.
Prerequisites:3.67 GPA in Latin II
or departmental recommendation.
AP Latin Literature (Advanced Placement)
480latAP QP 5.0 GR.11, 12 YEAR 1 CREDIT
This course aims at an in-depth study of the works of two
great Roman poets, Catullus and Ovid. Discussion of the
poems' themes and study of their poetic comprehension,
together with facility in communication of ideas in critical
analysis, will be expected of the AP candidate. The AP exam is a requirement
of the course.
Prerequisites: 3.67 in Honors Latin Prose or
Departmental recommendation.
