SACRED HEART ACADEMY

 

Completed Scholarship Applications are due in the Guidance Office by the SHA DEADLINE DATES SHOWN.

 

Students are encouraged to use the Guidance Department workroom to research for additional scholarship opportunities and to obtain information on Merit Scholarships from individual colleges and universities.

TOYOTA COMMUNITY SCHOLARS – SHA can nominate one student for this program which offers scholarships in the amount of $10,000-$20,000 payable over four years to selected candidates.  If you would like to be nominated, please see Mrs. Donohue in the Guidance Office by December 14.  The SHA candidate will be chosen by our Scholarship Committee. Nominees must have outstanding academic records and be effective leaders.  You must document your record of service within and outside the school setting.  Your involvement must address a school or community need.

 

COLUMBUS CITIZENS FOUNDATION – This foundation provides scholarship opportunities for Italian-American students.  Applications are available at: www.columbuscitizensfd.org.  Criteria:  Italian-American Ancestry; Financial Need;

Academic Excellence; Service to school and community.  Completed application must be submitted to the SHA Guidance Department by January 15, 2008.

 

AXA ACHIEVEMENT COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIP – Scholarships are available to students who set and reach ambitious goals, demonstrate drive and determination, respect for self, family and community. Financial need is required. Additional information and the application  available at:  www.axa-achievement.com.  If you plan to apply, your completed application and transcript request form are due in the Guidance Office by February 1, 2008.

MCKELVEY FOUNDATION ENTREPRENEURIAL SCHOLARSHIP – High School students who own and operate their own business while in high school may apply for this scholarship.  Additional information and application available at:  www.mckelveyfoundation.org (click on the Entrepreneurial Scholarship section).

 

THE HUMANE SOCIETY OF THE UNITED STATES – Applications are now being accepted for the Shaw-Worth Memorial Scholarship.  A New England high school senior who has made a meaningful contribution to animal protection over a significant period of time will be award a $2,000 scholarship.  There is no standardized application.  Applications should be written in letter form and should include a narrative of your achievements in animal protection.  Documentation of the activities cited, recommendations from at least three people, and a description of future plans for humane work are required. Completed applications should be mailed to:  The Humane Society of the United States, New England Regional Office, PO Box #619, Jacksonville, Vermont 05342 postmarked by 3/17/08.

 

MENSA EDUCATION AND RESEARCH FOUNDATIONSCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM – High school seniors from Connecticut and Western Massachusetts are eligible to apply for this scholarship.  Awards are based on an essay of fewer than 550 words describing the applicant’s career, vocational, or academic goals. WALLINGFORD LAND TRUST – High school seniors, who reside in Wallingford, and who plan to pursue a degree related to the environment may apply for this scholarship.  Applications are available in the Guidance office.  SHA DEADLINE:  3/14/08.

 

AMERICAN FIRE SPRINKLER ASSOCIATION – This is an essay contest:  “The Misconceptions and Myths of Fire Sprinkler Systems”.  The winner will be awarded a $l,000 scholarship. CONNECTICUT STATE UNIVERSITY SYSTEM – There are a number of scholarships offered through the Connecticut State University System. The criteria differ for each scholarship, and they are school specific. Detailed information is available in the Guidance Office.
